Out of mormonism by judy robertson6/8/2023 ![]() That is me giving her the benefit of the doubt she claims to have been a Mormon-convert for 7 years it's hard to believe they were a Satanic cult the whole time and she never noticed till the end. And it is strange to her because she was raised in a different Christian faith (which would be equally strange to someone raised Mormon, or Buddhist, or whatever). ![]() I got the feeling from reading the book that the author didn't have any real problem with the Mormon church other than it's strangeness. Rather than address issues like how women are treated by the LDS church, or how it's tenants may harm families, or any real criticism of the Mormon faith, the author instead decides to go with "the Church of the Latter-Day Saints is a Satanic Cult" as a her main issue with Mormonism. There is far more Jesus-pushing and talk about the rightness of non-Mormon Christianity. This is not a meaty book about Mormonism there is very little really about the religion or the people. ![]() ![]() The writing has no serious flaws it's adequate if a bit bland. ![]()

Bateson ecology6/8/2023 ![]() ![]() These contributors analyze and participate in complex ecological entanglements within, beyond, and against ecologies of bad ideas. ![]() ![]() This issue of Drain presents artists, researchers, theorists, cultural producers, commentators, and multimodal makers, thinkers, and doers that examine and engage the dispersion, proliferation, mutation, and normalization of bad ideas and bad ecologies. Contrasting the hubris of the Anthropocene-and its lingering tones of “ Man’s” rational progress and dominance over “ Nature” writ on a planetary scale-the ecology of bad ideas unfolds in the mess of the cumulative mental, social, and environmental assemblage of inherited ideas: oblivious, opportunist, oversimplified, corrupt, fraudulent, stubbornly inflexible, and pathologically upheld out of narrow and shortsighted self-interest. Akin to the meme, as defined by Dawkins, the ecology of bad ideas is manifest in the transmission and integration of idea into environment and, subsequently, the rearrangement of ecological conditions in its aftermath. ![]() The ecology of bad ideas is the product of the propagation of epistemological error. Gregory Bateson, Pathologies of Epistemology, 1971 There is an ecology of bad ideas, just as there is an ecology of weeds, and its characteristic of the system that basic error propagates itself. ![]()

Murderbot 26/7/2023 ![]() Or even Artificial Intelligence like Hal from 2001 A Space Odyssey. Now we think of characters like R2-D2 or the Terminator. He was largely unsuccessful.Īs technology continues to advance in our world and robots are becoming a reality, it makes sense that robots would become much more prevalent. ![]() It wasn’t until the 1950s that someone attempted to actually build a robot as we know today. Interdisciplinary in scope, First Comes Love seeks to establish how celebrity relationships play particular roles in dramatizing, disrupting, and reconciling often-contradictory Marriage, love, intimacy, family, parenthood, sexuality, and gender, in their particular historical contexts, from the 1920s ![]() Taken together, the chapters in this volume interrogate the ways these alliances are bound up in wider cultural debates about Where their individual identities as celebrities become inseparable from their status as a famous twosome. Accordingly, First Comes Love explores celebrity kinship and the phenomenon of the power couple: those relationships where two stars come together and Kitty and Dylan are a joy to behold as their banter and love end family traditions. ![]() Increasingly clear that celebrity is no longer an individual pursuit-if it ever was. The story line unabashedly keeps the humor at high levels throughout the novel. ![]() Linda Nochlin wrote "Why Have There Been No Great Women Artists?" in 1971 and it is currently seen as the literary cornerstone of feminist art history. ![]() Beyond that, Nochlin introduces us to the conundrum of whether its better to highlight women artists for the sake of creating women's art history or if the art and art history community should expand its consideration to anyone, not just the small group of people who fit the famous artist mold. Nochlin does this by spotlighting those female artists who have stood out within the larger community of famous artists while pondering if these few artists are enough to say that there have been great women artists. This article brought to light the discussion of feminist art history, and how it can be defined within art history as a whole. ![]() The question "why are there no great women artists" is a question that sent shockwaves through art history when Linda Nochlin published her article using this question as her title. ![]() |
